House Dedication - setting of the Mezuzah

Yesterday was a special day. We were invited to a house dedication to set the first Mezuzah.

If you're not familiar with a Mezuzah, it is a container that holds portions of the Torah which are affixed to the entrances (and often all internal doorways except bathrooms) to Jewish houses in response to the Mitzvah (command) to "list them (G-d's commands) on your doorposts and gates."

A wonderful family that has been part of our Congregational family for over 18 months, lost their house to a fire 1 year ago. But what the adversary meant for evil, G-d meant for good, and restored their home, 2-fold.

Many members of Congregation Beth Ha'Mashiach (www.bethhamashiach.com) gathered along with many friends to celebrate this wonderful restoration.

The Mezuzah was set, and it's meaning was explained to many non-Jewish guests. The blessings were said, and then Kevin lead everyone in singing the Shema - "Hear ye O Isra'el, the L-rd is G-d, the L-rd is One!" We then sang "Trees of the Field" as many joined in.

What a wonderful celebration!

Blessings
